Coryphantha maiz-tablasensis Ø 14

Coryphantha maiz-tablasensis – Ø 14 cm, supplied in an elegant terracotta pot from our Manera Line.

Fascinating cactus that tends to remain pleasantly flattened and globose, while naturally offsetting over time to form small, dense clusters. Unlike other cacti, it does not develop continuous ribs but is entirely covered with characteristic cylindrical tubercles. On the tip of each of them, very few light-coloured radial spines emerge, which do not hide the plant’s body but rather enhance its appearance.

Flowering: large summer blooms in shades of white or yellow, which appear directly from the apex of the plant.

Growing notes:

Exposure: enjoys bright light, preferably full sun (at least 4-6 hours per day). In summer, if placed outdoors, it appreciates slight protection during the hottest hours.

Watering: regular but moderate during the growing season (spring-summer), allowing the substrate to dry out completely between waterings. In autumn-winter, reduce watering almost entirely.

Soil type: very well-draining, mineral-based. Ideal: a cactus mix with added pumice, lapilli, or coarse sand (about 60-70% inert material).

Fertilising: from April to September, once a month with a specific cactus fertiliser, low in nitrogen and rich in potassium and phosphorus.

Curiosity: the specific name “maiz-tablasensis” refers to its locality of origin in Mexico. It is a slow-growing but long-lived plant, which over the years forms very decorative clumps. In the wild, it is considered rare and protected.
