Cyphostemma juttae Ø 14

Presented in a refined Ø 14 cm terracotta pot from our Manera Line. Native to the arid lands of Namibia, this rare caudiciform plant captivates with its sculptural silhouette: the stem, shaped like a bottle, is covered with a cream‑coloured, peeling bark, while the large waxy leaves with toothed edges create a stunning textural contrast.

A deciduous plant, Cyphostemma goes through a dormant period in winter, losing its foliage only to spring back with renewed vigour, in a cycle that echoes nature’s slow and profound rhythms.

Exposure: enjoys bright light, even a few hours of direct sun daily, but provide light shade during the hottest summer afternoons to prevent leaf scorch.

Watering: during the growing season (spring‑summer), water moderately, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings. In winter, during dormancy, reduce watering to a bare minimum.

Soil type: needs a very well‑draining mix, ideally with coarse sand, pumice and cactus potting soil in equal parts.

Fertilising: from April to September, apply a cactus fertiliser diluted to half‑strength every 3‑4 weeks.

Flowering: in summer it produces small greenish‑yellow flowers in clusters, followed by ornamental red berries (caution: the fruits are toxic if ingested).

Curiosity: its swollen stem (caudex) acts as a water reservoir – a perfect adaptation to desert climates. In the wild it can grow over 2 metres tall, but in a pot it grows slowly and is well suited for succulent bonsai cultivation.

Easy to care for, it loves bright positions and fears overwatering: just a few simple attentions are enough to preserve its beauty over time, making it a valuable addition both to collections and to refined interior settings.
