Echeveria Goldfinch Ø 14

Presented in an elegant terracotta pot from our Manera Line, this hybrid variety is a true jewel of succulent architecture. Its dwarf rosettes, with extremely slow growth, develop in a compact, ground-hugging manner, preserving near-perfect symmetry thanks to a deliberately reduced stem – a rare and prized characteristic within the Echeveria genus.

From a physiological perspective, the plant reveals its full chromatic splendour in autumn and spring: the wide day–night temperature fluctuations, combined with high light intensity, activate powerful photoprotective mechanisms. The result is a display of warm hues – yellow and orange ignite at the rosette’s centre, while leaf margins take on ruby red and vivid pink, creating a vibrant, ever-changing contrast.

In high summer, small bell-shaped flowers complete the ornamental picture, emerging on slender arched stalks – a detail that enriches the plant’s charm without compromising its compact form.

Growing notes – botanist’s recommendations

• Exposure: prefers very bright positions, even with direct sunlight during the cooler hours; protect from the harshest midday rays in summer, which may cause leaf scorch.
• Watering: water only when the substrate is completely dry, reducing to a minimum in winter; the greatest risk is waterlogging – the number one enemy of this species.
• Substrate: requires an ultra-free-draining mix, ideally with added pumice, lapilli or perlite (at least 50–60% of the blend).
• Fertilisation: apply a specific succulent fertiliser, low in nitrogen and rich in phosphorus and potassium, once a month during the growing season (spring – summer).
• Flowering: produces bell-shaped inflorescences in late spring – summer; the flowers, pinkish or coral in colour, are hermaphroditic and can be hand-pollinated to obtain seeds.
• Curiosity: ‘Goldfinch’ is a hybrid selected for its dwarf growth and remarkable resistance to light stress; its name evokes the golden plumage of the goldfinch, to which the plant’s autumn colours bear a striking resemblance.

Easy to manage even for the less experienced grower, this Echeveria requires little but precise attention: abundant light and a strict avoidance of waterlogging. With such care, it will reward you with years of sculpted beauty and ever-changing colours.
