Echeveria Suyon Ø 14
Presented in an elegant terracotta pot from our Manera collection, designed to enhance its natural beauty with understated refinement.
This variety stands out for its glossy, slightly concave leaves, arranged in compact, orderly rosettes borne on branched stems. Over time, the plant develops a charming bushy habit, offering a sculptural appearance that is constantly evolving.
Its most captivating feature is its shifting coloration: in the summer months it takes on a soft orange hue, while in winter, if exposed to intense light and significant temperature fluctuations, it deepens to a dark red, reaching intense purplish tones that are almost magnetic. The absence of farina on the smooth, glabrous leaves enhances the surface sheen and makes the colours remarkably vivid and saturated.
Cultivation notes from the botanist
- Exposure: full sun or very bright light; tolerates partial shade but colour intensity will diminish. In torrid climates, provide some protection during the hottest hours.
- Watering: allow the substrate to dry out completely between waterings. In winter, reduce to a minimum (once a month or less); in summer, increase moderately.
- Substrate: well-draining and porous – an ideal succulent mix with added pumice or perlite (60% inorganic, 40% organic).
- Fertilising: from spring to summer, once a month with a specific fertiliser for cacti and succulents, low in nitrogen and rich in potassium and phosphorus.
- Flowering: in late spring/summer it produces arched flower stalks bearing small bell-shaped blooms, in pinkish-orange or pale yellow, highly ornamental.
- Did you know? Unlike many Echeverias, ‘Suyon’ is almost completely lacking in waxy farina – this makes it glossier but also slightly more sensitive to stagnant moisture on the leaves. An excellent choice for collectors who appreciate dramatic seasonal colour shifts.
Easy to care for, it demands little attention: it loves light and tolerates drought well, as long as any waterlogging is carefully avoided. A perfect choice for those seeking a plant with strong character, one that tells the story of the seasons through its colours.
