Eulychnia castanea spiralis – Ø 14 cm, presented in a refined terracotta pot from our Manera Line.

An absolute botanical rarity. Its stem does not merely grow – it twists into a perfect, dense, geometric spiral, chiselled by nature with almost artisanal precision. Among the most elusive and sought-after spiralled forms, it stands out for its slow growth, a trait that increases its charm and value over time.

Each specimen is unrepeatable: the spiral develops following a unique pattern along the entire stem, where marked, geometric ribs rotate upon themselves in an upward movement, carving a silhouette that captures the eye and celebrates the beauty of ordered imperfection.

Growing notes:

• Exposure: full sun or very bright direct light; tolerates partial shade, but the spiral develops best under intense light.
• Watering: in spring/summer, wait until the substrate is completely dry between waterings; in winter, reduce almost to nothing.
• Soil type: well-draining, porous, mineral-based (pumice, lapilli, coarse sand) with very little organic matter.
• Fertilising: once a month from April to September with a cactus fertiliser low in nitrogen and high in potassium and phosphorus.
• Flowering: produces medium-sized, nocturnal cream-white flowers, followed by spiny edible fruits; in cultivation, it rarely flowers, only after many years.
• Did you know? in the wild, it grows along the coasts of northern Chile, where coastal fog (camanchaca) provides moisture without wetting the soil. The spiral shape is a stable genetic mutation, not artificially induced.
