Moringa drouhardii Ø 16

An extraordinary and majestic species with a strong exotic temperament. Highly sought after by collectors of caudiciform plants, it stands out for its woody, swollen base that acts as a natural water reservoir, reminiscent of a small Baobab silhouette. From the top of the trunk, a light canopy develops, formed by elegant, bright green pinnate leaves. In young potted specimens, the stem quickly takes on a sculptural, bulbous shape, making it a unique and highly conversation-worthy plant.

Growing notes

• Exposure: full sun or very bright light; indoors, place near a south-facing window. Tolerates partial shade but will lose compactness.
• Watering: allow the substrate to dry out completely between waterings. In spring/summer, water every 7-10 days; in winter, reduce to once a month or almost stop entirely.
• Soil type: well-draining and coarse, ideally a cactus mix with added pumice or perlite (30-40%) to absolutely prevent waterlogging.
• Fertilizing: from April to September, apply a liquid fertilizer for succulents with low nitrogen, diluted to half strength, every 15-20 days.
• Flowers: in nature, it produces fragrant creamy-yellow inflorescences, but it rarely flowers in pots; the true beauty lies in the caudex and foliage.
• Curiosity: in Madagascar, where it is endemic, it is called the “bottle tree” for its ability to store water in the swollen base. It can grow over 10 meters in habitat, but in pots it stays compact and sculptural.

It requires little care, loves light, and fears water stagnation.
