Myrtillocactus geometrizans Ø 17 cm

Myrtillocactus geometrizans, one of the most beloved, elegant, and sculptural columnar cacti in the plant world, belonging to the Cactaceae family. Famous for its clean lines and unique shades, this species is an undisputed icon of contemporary botanical design, perfect for adding a touch of exotic minimalism to characterful interiors and exteriors.

The plant develops erect columnar stems that tend to branch naturally with age. The feature that makes it instantly recognizable is the extraordinary color of the epidermis: a glaucous, bluish-green covered with a thin natural wax (pruina) that protects it from the sun. In spring, it produces small greenish-white flowers followed by delicious, edible reddish-purple fruits that resemble wild blueberries in both appearance and taste.

Cultivation notes:

• Light: full sun or very bright direct light; tolerates partial shade but loses its characteristic bluish color.
• Watering: regular in spring/summer (every 7-10 days when soil is dry), almost none in winter. Absolutely avoid waterlogging.
• Soil: very well-draining, ideal cactus mix with coarse sand, pumice, and volcanic lapilli.
• Fertilizing: once a month in spring/summer with a low-nitrogen cactus fertilizer.
• Cold hardiness: withstands brief frosts down to -4°C (25°F) if kept dry, but better to protect in winter.
