Notocactus erinaceus Ø 14

Notocactus erinaceus – Ø 14 cm, supplied in an elegant terracotta pot from our Manera Line.

Its spherical stem features pronounced, wavy ribs. A fascinating feature of this plant is its apical crown: if protected from rain and watered only from below, it retains small, dense white cottony “fluffs” that give it a unique and elegant look.

Exposure: loves bright light, but appreciates some shade during the hottest summer hours to prevent sunburn. Prefers airy positions.

Watering: requires little care and fears waterlogging. In spring and summer, water moderately, waiting for the substrate to dry out completely between waterings. In autumn and winter, almost stop watering.

Soil type: needs a very well-draining substrate, ideally a cactus mix with added pumice or perlite (at least 50% inert material).

Fertilizing: from spring to summer, apply a specific cactus fertilizer, low in nitrogen and rich in potassium and phosphorus, once a month.

Flowering: the flowers, unusually large for the size of the cactus, open during the sunniest hours of the day. They are bright yellow with reddish shades at the base and appear in late spring.

Curiosity: in the wild, it grows in hilly areas of Uruguay and southern Brazil. It is a very long-lived species and, with proper care, can live for decades, offering spectacular blooms.
