Portulacaria pygmaea Ø 14

Presented in a refined terracotta pot Ø 14 cm from our Manera Line, this very rare caudiciform succulent is a true gem for collectors and lovers of sophisticated greenery.

Its knotted stem, with a strong sculptural personality, develops into unique and unrepeatable shapes, from which compact branches sprout, covered in tiny fleshy bright green leaves. Its extremely slow growth and naturally compact habit make it resemble a desert-shaped bonsai, capable of stopping time and capturing attention.

Exposure: thrives in bright light, even direct sun for a few hours a day, but protect during the hottest hours in summer to prevent leaf burn.

Watering: water only when the substrate is completely dry. In winter, reduce to a minimum (once a month or even less). It absolutely cannot tolerate waterlogging.

Soil type: use a highly draining succulent mix, with added pumice or perlite (about 50–60% inert material).

Fertilization: from spring to late summer, once a month with a specific cactus and succulent fertilizer, diluted to half strength.

Flowering: under optimal conditions, it produces small pink or purplish flowers at the branch tips, usually in late spring or summer.

Did you know? It is related to the famous “jade plant” (Portulacaria afra), but differs in its dwarf habit and swollen caudex. In the wild, it grows in arid regions of southern Africa and is protected as a rare species.
