Sulcorebutia rauschii Ø 12

Sulcorebutia rauschii charms with its globular, geometric stem, colours ranging from olive green to deep purple, and flat, non-prickly spines. In spring it produces spectacular, large magenta flowers, often exceeding the stem in diameter. The more correct sunlight it receives, the more the epidermis turns to an intense violet‑fuchsia.

Growing notes:

• Exposure: full sun or strong direct light (at least 4‑6 hours per day), with light shading during the hottest hours to prevent sunburn.
• Watering: regular in spring‑summer but only when the soil is completely dry between waterings; reduce sharply in autumn‑winter (almost stop if temperatures drop below 10 °C).
• Soil: very well‑draining cactus mix (30% universal potting soil, 40% pumice or lava grit, 30% coarse silica sand).
• Fertilising: once a month in spring‑summer with a specific cactus fertiliser (low nitrogen, high potassium and phosphorus), diluted to half strength.
• Graft: the plant is grafted onto a hardy rootstock, which promotes faster growth and greater tolerance to cultivation mistakes, but requires attention to rootstock swelling and mechanical stability.

Ideal for small spaces and lovers of rare succulents, it needs little care, loves light, and fears waterlogging.
