List of succulent plants and collections belonging to the species Tylecodon available for purchase online in our Boutique.
A genus of succulent plants belonging to the family Crassulaceae, native to the arid regions of Namibia and South Africa. It is a genus related to Cotyledon, from which it differs by its spirally arranged leaves that are deciduous during the summer period.
- Appearance and growth: the plants are generally small and very slow-growing. They have thickened, succulent stems (pachycauls), often with a caudiciform appearance, which store water to survive drought. Sizes range from dwarf species of a few millimeters to small trees such as Tylecodon paniculatus, which can reach up to 2.5 meters in height.
- Adaptation to the environment: they are winter-growing plants. During the hot, dry summer months, they go dormant and lose their leaves; growth resumes in autumn and winter, making the most of the rainfall typical of their native region.
- Leaves and flowers: the leaves are fleshy, arranged at the tips of the branches, and can have various shapes. The flowers are grouped in inflorescences and have a characteristic tubular corolla with backward-reflexed lobes. They bloom in summer, when the plant is leafless.
