Astrophytum myriostigma fukuryu Ø 18

Authentic masterpiece of Japanese botany, renowned for its sculptural and intricate shape. The main feature of this extremely rare cultivar is the presence of extra ribs or secondary ribs (called Fukuryu) that develop between the main ribs, creating a fascinating spongy, wrinkled, and asymmetrical effect. The stem is adorned with a dense constellation of tiny white dots.

Growing notes:

• Exposure: full sun or bright intense light, with a few hours of direct sun in the morning or late afternoon (protect during the hottest hours in summer to prevent sunburn).
• Watering: abundant but infrequent from March to October, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings; almost fully suspend in winter.
• Soil type: very well-draining, mineral-based (pumice, volcanic grit, coarse sand) with little organic matter; slightly acidic to neutral pH.
• Fertilizing: from spring to late summer, using a cactus fertilizer low in nitrogen and high in potassium and phosphorus, diluted to half the recommended strength, once a month.
• Flowers: in summer, the apex produces stunning bright yellow flowers, often with a delicate reddish or orange blush at the center; they last 2–3 days and open fully during daytime.

The Astrophytum captivates enthusiasts with its uniquely varied forms. With its luminous yellow blooms, it combines rarity and resilience. A desert masterpiece. It requires little care, loves light, and fears waterlogging.
