Lithops sp. (Living stones) Ø 7,5
Lithops – tiny South African succulent plants that perfectly mimic the shape and colour of pebbles to camouflage and survive. Made of just two fleshy fused leaves, they are famous for their unique life cycle and for the large daisy‑like white or yellow flowers that appear in autumn. A real space‑saver, perfect for collectors and for anyone looking for an outstanding, low‑maintenance plant.
Exposure: full sun or very bright light for at least 4–5 hours a day. In summer, protect during the hottest hours if temperatures exceed 35 °C.
Soil: extremely well‑draining, with at least 80% inorganic material (pumice, lava grit, coarse sand, perlite) and little or no peat or universal potting mix.
Watering: very sparingly and only when the soil is completely dry. In spring and autumn water every 10–15 days; in summer reduce or stop during dormancy; in winter stop almost completely, especially if temperatures drop below 10 °C.
Fertilising: very light, once a year in spring with a cactus fertiliser diluted to 1/4 of the recommended dose.
Caution: it hates waterlogging, which causes rapid rot. Never water during leaf change (when the old pair dries up to make room for the new one).
At a glance:
- Light: full sun (with slight summer protection)
- Watering: infrequent, only when soil is dry
- Soil: ultra‑draining, low in organic matter
- Fertiliser: once a year, very diluted
- Temperature: not below 5–10 °C in winter
- Flowering period: autumn
