Pachypodium horombense Ø 17 cm

Pachypodium horombense, one of the most fascinating, sought-after and ornamental species of the entire Pachypodium genus. Native to the harsh rocky highlands of Madagascar, this botanical gem is a true work of natural art, celebrated by collectors for its compact habit and strikingly showy blooms.

Unlike columnar species that grow tall, Pachypodium horombense develops a low, swollen, massive basal caudex, from which short, erect, knobby branches arise. The plant produces long stalks bearing spectacular bright golden-yellow, large bell-shaped flowers – unusually large compared to the plant’s size and much more swollen than those of other Pachypodium.

Growing notes:

• Light: full sun or very bright direct light; tolerates partial shade but blooms less.
• Watering: regular in spring-summer (let the soil dry out between waterings); reduce drastically in winter.
• Soil type: very well-draining, succulent-specific mix (e.g., sand, pumice, lava grit, little potting soil).
• Fertilizing: once a month during the growing season with a low-nitrogen cactus fertilizer.
• Other: requires little care, loves light and fears waterlogging. Perfect for caudiciform collectors and rare plant lovers.
